Children Photo Sessions Must Haves

In addition to choosing the right clothing for your photo-session, there are some essentials that Moms should bring to every photo session. Keeping in mind what the weather might be like, you might need extra clothing such as stockings or sweaters to add to your little ones wardrobe. Bringing additional blankets for quick warm-ups will also be crucial to keeping a happy baby. Always pack wipes, snacks, juice, and possibly a small toy or pacifier to soothe the child if he/she gets upset. Something else you may not have thought of is Music! Music can make anyone happy, its a quick distraction for the child as well as grabbing their attention in the direction of the photographer. Think of what type of music makes your little one smile and dance and before your session make sure you import it to your phone. Your cellphone is something you carry with you everywhere and its small so you can hide it close to the child but have it invisible to the camera. In the image below Mom held her phone directly above my head while it was blasting an Elmo Song, over and over and we got tons of really fantastic dancing smiling photos. […]

Capturing Memories that will last Forever

Photography to me is the most powerful way to capture ideas, thoughts, emotions, beliefs, laughs, tears and they say “a picture paints a thousand words” but I don’t believe a thousand words could even encompass what you can capture in a single image. In a world where we are surrounded by images, and are capable of creating images with just a simple click of our cell phones I believe that professional photographers are still essential to help people capture memories. Its a chance for the whole family including you to step out from behind the camera and be part of the memory. I have been surrounded with the “Arts” my whole life, my mother is a painter and all around fabulous person, and my father was a Military man when I was young and a professional photographer my whole life- they both always encouraged my siblings and my creativity. Once my father retired from the military and we settled in one location, south Texas, he developed his business fully. At one point we even had a dark room in the house. He focused on what he loved to do and shoot- Sports. The business became a family activity and we would […]

Choosing the right Clothing for your Photo-Shoot

When picking out what you and your family will be wearing on your photoshoot, keep in mind where the final image will be displayed. If you are wanting a family portrait to hang in your family room keep in mind your home decor- it may sound weird but- dress to match your couch! You will get the maximum “Wow factor” from your new artwork if you really conciser the space you will be displaying it. Think about a cohesive color palate, you don’t want to be “matchy-matchy” per say; think of an accent color or colors and have your family wear “like” colors. Whether your style is contemporary, shabby chic, industrial, classic, or you have an island getaway feel, consider your personal style when choosing the wardrobe for your photo session. This family is a great example of dressing the family with color cohesion- each person has an individual style but they also belong to the group! Also think about the type of location you are wanting as well- again keeping the final hanging place in mind when choosing. Your photographer no doubt has a variety of locations in their arsenal, but picking the right one for your family is […]
